Wonderful Quality of Life in the Northwoods Located in Wisconsin's northwoods, Price County is the fifth largest in land area of the state's 72 counties. The area is known for its spectacular natural beauty, including vast areas of national, state, and county forestland. Price County was created in 1879 and is named for W.T. Price, a local logger and president of the Wisconsin State Senate. The lands that became Price County were a part of the vast pine covered area of northern Wisconsin and provided necessary materials for the expansions of the western frontier and growth for our nation. The area is home to approximately 15,000 residents in small cities, villages, and townships. Major industries include manufacturing, wood, paper, & plastic products, farming, tourism, and health care. Phillips has an indoor community pool with Olympic-sized lanes for lap swimmers, swimming lessons, and open swim. Elk Lake Park provides a walking trail on the lake, and areas to play soccer, basketball, and volleyball. Park Falls has an outdoor community pool used for lap swimming, swimming lessons, and open swim in the summer months. Park Falls also has a Recreational Arena featuring hockey, open skating, and other area events.

About 18,000 of the county's 806,840 acres are in lakes and streams, and more than 310,000 acres of forested land are open to the public with over 300 miles of trails. There are unique cultural community events, such as the Czech Fest, Price County Fair, and Flambeau Rama. Phillips is home to an annual country music festival, as well. The communities are often centered around their school’s sporting events, which creates a lot of pride in the local towns. Much camaraderie takes place at these local sporting events. Visitors from throughout the Midwest are drawn to Price County's clean air and water; thousands of acres of forest lands, parks, campgrounds, & golf courses; and hundreds of miles of snowmobile trails.
